Hello again Eco Health Babes!
.
Welcome to another blog post from yours truly. Today, I am excited to talk to you about how my slow living journey began. It took me 5 years to get to this point in my lifestyle journey, but I thought I might save you some time (because our time is precious). It is very exciting to have you read this! Itβs long over due.
.
A quick note, as you are reading, you may realise that you fit into certain stages of my lifestyle journey, this is great! (you now know what the next stage will be). As I have stated before I am no expert and I am just sharing my personal experiences with you to help you learn and grow. So, lets dive in⦠shall we?
.
My lifestyle journey has been a slow one, granted there have been many hardships along the way, but here I am at the other end. Please note that these stages may not happen in the order written in this post. Lets see how I did it!
.
My slow living lifestyle journey had 4 main stages;
- During first stage, (where it all began) I was obsessed with healthy living. Literally, anything health related I was trying and testing. I practised yoga and meditation daily, drank 2L water each day (made sure I had lemon water daily), minimised sweets/sugar, I trialled a vegetarian diet for a week (minimised my brain fog and increased my energy levels). I trialled lemon and honey face scrubs and even sugar body scrubs (all DIY of course), I even signed up for the gym! ( I know, crazy right?). I also had a lot of stresses during this stage as I was completing my year 12 schooling and transitioning into university. This stage took me roughly 3 years butI am still continuing to try new things.
- The next stage, was where I began researching the chemicals and ingredients that were in the products that I was using on a daily basis. (This was followed by very intense realisation). I also looked into the effects that these chemicals/ingredients had on both humans and animals (they were not very good ones) and made a firm decision to minimise unnatural ingredients as much as I could (as it is impossible to completely eliminate all chemicals that we are around on a daily basis). A couple of ingredients I looked into were phenylalanine and aluminium (more on these in a future post if you are interested). This stage took me 6 months.
- I then, transitioned to the shopping phase (not as fun as it sounds). I was obsessively buying βhealthyβ items. This included anything without gluten, or meat with a minimal daily/egg intake and limited βhealthyβ sugar. Keep in mind by this stage of the process, I had moved out of home so I was only shopping for my boyfriend and myself. I also did not have the judgement that I would have received at home with my parents (food is a very important topic at home). Most of the things I bought are things I only used for a year or so, theses were nutritional yeast, spirulina, tofu, natural deodorant, bamboo utensils, βrawβ anything and nut butter. I think I spent quite a few hundred dollars to set all of this up, but this could be reduced if you only buy necessaties. By this stage I knew 100%, that I was going to be committed to this lifestyle and so I invested in it. This stage took me 6 months to gather the basic necessaties (the hardest part was find places that had what I needed).
- Lastly, (the stage where I am at now) I changed my mindset so that it matched the lifestyle I wanted. Ethically, I chose to make sustainable fashion choices beginning with switching to cloth pads, (not as gross as you think) and investing in quality natural linen/wool/silk clothing rather than fast fashion clothing. This is where I saw the impacts of my choices on the environment around me, and decided to changed it. This stage started 4 years ago.
.
Now that you have read my stages of transitioning to a slow and more sustainable lifestyle, where do you think you are? I hope that you have found this somewhat helpful with your lifestyle journey.
.
Sending more positivity your way.
